2k Traitor Guard for NW GT

So I’ve been thinking about attending the NW GT in January hosted by Conquest. It is 2k, 5 game tourny which will be an intense weekend both because the games are larger than I normally play as well as way more games than I normally play in a weekend.

I have until mid December to decide if I want to go or not so in the mean time I am going to prepare for it by making a 2k list and playing as many games as I can with it. So here it goes:

HQ: Company Command Squad @ 290 pts (Medi-pack; Regimental Standard; Vox Caster; Plasmagun x1)

  • Lord Castellan Creed
  • Officer of the Fleet
  • Chimera (Heavy Bolter;  Multi-Laser)

Troops:  Infantry Platoon @ 207 pts

  • Platoon Command Squad ( Krak Grenades; Vox Caster; Grenade Launcher x2)
    • Platoon Commander (Melta Bombs; Bolt Pistol; Power Weapon)
  • Infantry Squad ( Power Weapon; Vox Caster; Flamer)
  • Infantry Squad (Power Weapon; Vox Caster; Flamer)

Troops: Infantry Platoon @ 567 pts

  • Platoon Command Squad ( Krak Grenades; Vox Caster; Grenade Launcher x2)
    • Platoon Commander (Melta Bombs; Bolt Pistol; Power Weapon)
  • Infantry Squad (Power Weapon;  Vox Caster; Flamer)
  • Infantry Squad (Power Weapon; Vox Caster; Flamer)
  • Heavy Weapons Squad (Lascannon x3)
  • Heavy Weapons Squad (Lascannon x3)
  • Heavy Weapons Squad (Missile Launcher x3)
  • Heavy Weapons Squad (Mortar x3)

Fast Attack: 2 Armoured Sentinel @ 150 pts (Plasma Cannon)

Fast Attack: 2 Bane Wolves @ 290 pts (Chem Cannon; Multi-Melta)

Fast Attack: 2 Scout Sentinels @ 90 pts (Missile Launcher)

Heavy Support: Leman Russ Battle Tank @ 185 pts ( Lascannon; Heavy Bolter Sponsons x2)

Heavy Support: Leman Russ Demolisher @ 220 pts (Lascannon; Plasma Cannon Sponsons x2)

This may not be the most competitive list, in fact I’m sure it is not, but it should be fun and uses everything I’ve built so far. The only things I need to add are: the Demolisher, Chimera and officer of the fleet. I also have to paint the mortar squad.

Let me know your thoughts (good or bad). I have 2 months to tweak the list and build any other units I need.

I think you should make a go at the tournament. I always find the multi-day tournaments to be a blast and it focuses your gaming prepared-ness and gives you a deadline to get stuff done.

As far as your list, while I agree this is not the super competitive Leaf Blower style IG Template list or Mech IG list that you are accustomed to seeing on the web right now, I think it definitely a good starting point. What is the purpose of the first 25 man platoon in the army. I notice all it really has is 2 grenade launchers and 2 flamers in the way of punch and no transport option at all. Don’t you think 2 Vet Squads could do the job better and for less points?

Also why no Valks? Even 1 or 2 of them to move a vet squad or two around and to give you some high mobile template laying ability can really put a crease in your enemies plans and cause all kind of disruption.

You have a solid start I think, you just need to make a few tweaks and you will have a solid list.

That’s a nice looking army at first glance mate, I don’t know too much about Imperial Guard apart from when they annihilate my Necrons on the frequent occasion (Thanks Drax!). I definately like the thought of 2 Tanks as a Fast Attack though, I’m guessing with the Multi-Melta it will be predominantly an anti-armour unit. Not sure about those Chem Cannons, are they infantry useful or armour? Could you replace the second squad of Sentinels for a squad of Storm Troopers, perhaps with Valkyrie transport within points limit? I’ve seen them influence many a game before just with their special weapon load outs. Just a thought, and in specific regards to the Storm Troopers try and fit them in somewhere as they can actually cause a second thought to tough unit players like Marines and Necrons as well as being elite enough to take on Eldar. Yes I just like Storm Troopers!

Thanks for the comments guys (and sorry your comment was sitting in the spam Huron!).

I have heard the Valks are the way to go, but I wanted to keep my army themed and Valks don’t really seem to fit the traitor, Iron Warrior henchmen theme. perhaps I could convert something to “count as” a Valk…

The storm troopers do have some great rules, I may have to build something up for them, enforcers with whips perhaps. Thanks for the ideas guys.
